In this video I talk about securing the gig first and the power it leads to your growth and visibility.

  • Book the gig first and prepare next. Generate the deadline and this way you have the goal with the finish line. When you get a speaking opportunity it does not happen that fast as the gig that you booked will usually take place two to six months in the future (giving you plenty of time to rehearse).
  • Preparation is not about being 100% prepared. Having to be 100% prepared can lead to procrastination and this delay is a detriment of the movement for things happening for you. Just get it done.
  • YES Energy. Say YES and commit and then go figure it out. It moves things in your favor and aligns things for you. Once you make the decision, you will commit and do the action.

Show Highlights

Watch this video as I list the biggest myths about speaking.

Let me know which one of these myths resonates with you the most?

  • You can't make money speaking for free.
    • Not true as that's the primary way I use to build my business.
  • People care about the content the most.
    • Speakers resonate and connect with the audience. It's not just about the content, it's also about the vulnerability, connecting to the humanness and more.
  • Be 100% prepared before getting the gig.
    • You don't have to have your entire talk spelled out. Get the gig, then get prepared.
  • You have to be an extrovert.
    • I'm more of an introvert and I was able to become a stellar speaker. It's okay to be you. You can practice elevating your energy.
  • It's so hard to get a gig.
    • There are tons of people looking for speakers. If you declare that you are a speaker and open yourself up to it, the opportunities will come. Start with a few of them and more will come your way.

When I started to speak in front of audiences it led to many opportunities for my business.

- A leadership position in networking group
- Higher paying clients
- Invited to speak at conferences
- A podium at Harvard Business School

If I had not said yes to speaking none of this would have ever happened.

In this episode I share the many benefits of speaking in front of an audience.
